Since this is my first official post for my new blog Spellbound TV, I thought I should start with one of my favorite shows on tv: Supernatural starting its sixth season last week helping the CW Network take the coveted third spot on top of the charts edging out Fox.
I didn't know what to expect since I had been speculating all summer about a number of things. How would Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) make his long awaited return after a year apart from his brother? How would the return of their back from the dead Grandfather, Samuel Campbell (played by former X Files actor Mich Pileggi) and the introduction of the boys cousins fit in to the overall story. How Sera Gamble, as new show runner would fair at the helm. How would the reunion with boys be? And many many more question leading up to the premiere.Dean WinchesterImage via Wikipedia

To sum up the premiere to me: on the one hand there was what I've known for the past five seasons bumping up against the new direction the show is now heading in.

Problems I had with the episode:
1.The hug wasn't long enough to satisfy this long-time viewer as it seem way to short. But I'll let that pass for now.

2. Not sure about the brother personality switcheroo. If I don't say so myself I kinda like the Sam in the later episodes of the fifth season. He seemed to get more stronger as Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) began to fall apart.

3. The introduction of Lisa Braeden (Cindy Sampson) in the new season. Why? Why? Why? This was troubling to me when I first heard about the introduction of her over in more episodes in the sixth season this past summer.
There has always been a continue lack of chemistry between both characters, and I thought it would have served the Ackles character better to put him with Cassie, since the writers went to the trouble to emphasized years ago that she was the actually love of his life. Rather than try to reinvent a whole new story based off a "bendy weekend."

This would have giving the scenes between the brothers even more emotion of anguish and resolved that Dean couldn't just pick up and leave because he had new obligations elsewhere.

4. Metallicar not fully shown. Supernatural is missing one is greatest cast members and I hope to see Dean's Baby soon.

5. Not enough scenes between Dean and Ben (played by actor Nicholas Elia). These two clicked since the introduction of Ben in The Kids Are Alright,#3.02, and it would have been nice to see more of their interaction in the opening montage.

Now what I like about the episode:
1. From the opening montage of Bob Seger's song, “Beautiful Loser," that help set the tone for the show to the  enjoyable flashbacks of Dean's old life mixed in with the new life he's in now. I think it helped to summed up the kind of life Dean had been leading this past year.

2. The introduction of Grandpa Samuel and new addition of the cousins Christian (actor Corin Nemec), Gwen (Jessica Heafey) and Mark Campbell (David Paetkau) will make an interesting addition to the show as we begin to learn more about their background. They are just as mysterious/shading as I thought they would be.

3. What is up with those monster of the week? Just like the Campbells they are just as interesting with the Djinn last seen in 2007, What Is And What Should Never Be, #2.20. This time around the Djinn are exhibiting powers they did not have in seasons past. In the past, the Djinn were cave dwellers preferring to hunt at night alone. This time around however, the Djinn not only hunt out in the open light in packs. And rather than presenting the infected with their hearts desire they now are able to bring on your worst nightmares.

However if I was hoping for answers as to where these  new monsters came from in the first episode I was left very intrigued but slightly disappointed.
4. Glad to be done with the overall storyline arc of Heaven vs. Hell, as it seem to me to be weighing down the whole of the series.

5. Good to see our favorite Yellow Eyed Demon, Azazel make his long a waited return played by actor Fredric Lehne. I vote for more of Azazel because where ever he is trouble is usually not far behind.
Overall I was left somewhat satisfy with the anticipation of what I hope will be the big payoff for the rest of the season.

One of the main complaints that I had and hopefully will be addressed soon, is the getting back to what made the show so good in the first three season and the early part of the fourth. Only time will tell if that happens, so I plan on waiting until a couple more episodes are in before I fully judge the new direction of the series.
